You can also type these straight into any search box on the site. Most searches don’t need them: search already finds other forms of a word (war and wars) and well-known other names (Joma, JMS), and fixes most spelling mistakes.

"united front"
Put words in quotes to find them together, in that exact order.
peace -negotiations
Put a minus sign before a word to leave out results that mention it.
imperialism -"US imperialism"
The minus sign also works on a phrase in quotes.
socialism OR fascism
Finds results with either word. Write OR in capitals.
imperial*
An asterisk at the end finds every word that starts this way, such as imperialism and imperialist. Type at least three letters before it.
"national * front"
Inside quotes, an asterisk stands for any one word.
revolution AND peasants
Finds only results that have every word. Write AND in capitals. Without it, search focuses on the most telling words and may skip a very common one.
title:socialism
Looks only in titles, including other titles a work is known by. author:, keyword: and publisher: work the same way, with one word or a phrase in quotes.
year:1968..1972
Finds items from those years. You can also write year:1970 for a single year, 1970..1980 for a range, or 2020.. for 2020 onwards.
